TBG & ASTRO
The American Society for Radiation Oncology, otherwise known as ASTRO, is a professional organization that was founded in 1958 and comprised of radiation oncologists, radiation oncology nurses, medical physicists, radiation therapists, dosimetrists and biologists. These ASTRO members are healthcare professionals from notable practice centers in the radiation community and radiation academic research facilities. One of the organization’s main goals is to provide its members continuing education opportunities as well as professional development. The organization offers continuing medical education, health policy analyses and research results, patient information resources and advocacy tools to its members to help them succeed in a complex and evolving healthcare landscape. ASTRO also believes in fostering greater communication and holds meetings, events, workshops, etc. to share ideas and collaborate.
ASTRO’s website contained much of the information for its members, but usability was an issue. The site was filled with enormous amounts of valuable information, but users had a hard time navigating. ASTRO contracted TBG (The Berndt Group) for a full site redesign, focusing on the user experience. Working with TBG, ASTRO selected Ektron as its CMS.
The project focused on the following main goals:
- creating better usability for all audiences;
- promoting events and education opportunities as well as research and news updates; and
- promoting and positioning the organization and its mission and increasing membership.
TBG developed a strategy enabling the redesign to address a better navigation, bringing to light the priorities and valuable content, ultimately leading the user through a richer experience.
Overall, this project brought the ASTRO website to the level its members expect, fostering greater collaboration and communication.
