Summit Award Win for Kauffman Entrepreneurs Receives Recognition

September 6, 2017, Baltimore, MD

TBG (The Berndt Group), a national digital agency and Sitecore Gold partner headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, is proud to announce that the agency won a Summit Award for its work on the nationally recognized site

Since 1994, the annual Summit International Awards (SIA) have recognized small and medium-sized agencies in creative excellence. Throughout its 23-year history, its Creative Award has established itself as a premier arbiter of creative and communication excellence. TBG’s work was chosen among entries from more than 50 countries and across five continents.

Through interviews with Kauffman Foundation stakeholders, user testing, a review of best practices for similar websites, and additional benchmarking TBG had previously executed for similar organizations, TBG developed a new strategic vision for The fully Responsive site features an exceptionally clean user-centric experience that utilizes a best practices taxonomy model to relate content in complex ways. Featuring a modular layout with ample use of white space and an immediately intuitive visual hierarchy, the design provides clear journeys to search or browse content from any page of the site, on any device. Moreover, the site is an example of extremely high sustainability and back-end usability. Content managed in Sitecore 8.1, the site automatically generates related links. Technical applications and integrations on the back-end with Sitecore enable a large part of the site’s flexibility and sophisticated business rules. An advanced search tool, coupled with the new minimal user experience, provides the user with the ability to search by media type to access information more easily.

TBG continues to work with the Kauffman Foundation to improve the site and to make greater use of the Sitecore CMS. This is the second award for the site; has also won a Gold Omni award.

“ is a best-of-breed nonprofit website, and we are very proud of the site. We’re happy that the project team’s hard work and talent is being recognized,” said CEO John Berndt. “The site uses some of the best features of Sitecore, including portlets that showcase related content via extensive taxonomy documentation, implementation, and superior design. The site’s usability was vastly improved by the new search experience, which includes filters for various media content types. We are very pleased that the entrepreneurial community is reaping the benefits of this outstanding resource.”

The Summit Award win goes hand-in-hand with the numerous awards and recognition TBG has received throughout the years, including continued recognition from the Baltimore Business Journal in its Top Web Agencies Book of Lists. In addition, TBG has won numerous awards for its work, including Sitecore Site of the Year, multiple ADDY® awards, and Webby honors (the “Oscars” of the Web).
