Meet Joan, Web Strategist & Futbolista
Joan is a member of TBG’s Information Architecture (IA) and Web Strategy Team. The IA team builds the strategic skeleton of a client’s website using the latest research in usability, information architecture, content strategy, and user experience design.
Digital strategy was never far from Joan’s mind as she made her way through a PhD program in Philosophy at Temple University. While working as a research assistant at the Institute for the Study of Race and Social Thought, and then the Center for Humanities, Joan studied the relationship between culture, technology, and problem-solving. Ever pragmatic, Joan supplemented her studies by creating digital games and websites, and teaching university classes on systems theory, existential phenomenology, and video games.
Joan’s background in academic research helps her to plan and execute user research studies for TBG’s clients. Read her post about conducting an international, remote and moderated (50-person!) user test.
“I’m a better researcher and strategist when I read across genres. Right now I’m reading Carol Dweck’s work on psychological mindsets, Data Science for Business by Provost and Fawcett, Fanon’s A Dying Colonialism, and Giuseppe Di Lampedusa’s The Leopard. Having this diverse knowledge and reading at my fingertips truly helps me work from different perspectives and makes my approach to problem-solving that much more complex.”
When not problem-solving with her teammates at TBG, you can find Joan on the soccer pitch, in the garden, or peripatetic, conceiving disaster planning and response technology.
