&description=Award-Winning Site for Vital Arts Non-Profit
The Berndt Group typically takes on three pro bono projects per year for socially-motivated or arts-focused non-profit organizations. The company feels it is important to support the local nonprofit and small business communities in Baltimore as much as we can.
The Berndt Group designed and built a pro bono site for Maryland Art Place, a contemporary art center and gallery in downtown Baltimore. The new site sought to establish Maryland Art Place as a vibrant member of a national network of art centers and museums, but also to firmly establish MAP in the Baltimore community as an arts destination and resource.
This sleekly designed site features content-managed Flash to highlight current exhibitions, an expanding menu for easy access to all section, and highly organized content such as exhibition details and image galleries, press releases, programs and events, ways to get involved, and resources for artists. The site is built so that all content is easily editable by the client, as exhibitions and opportunities for artists must be constantly updated. High impact imagery from exhibitions is used throughout the site to create an immersive experience. The clean design and easy navigation of the new site projects a new more modern, sophisticated, and accessible image for the organization.
Noteworthy features of the site include: Homepage Flash is updated by the client through a custom browser interface (no knowledge of Flash necessary); Navigation area is fixed as pages scroll, so that it is always accessible, even when the user has scrolled to the bottom of a long page; Scrolling image galleries pop up within the page against a darkened background, allowing the client to add as many images as they like without creating clutter or extra download time within the exhibition page itself; Rotating background images keep the site fresh and interesting; and Table-less CSS-based code is highly organized and easily updatable.
The Berndt Group won a number of awards for this site, including a Davey Award, ADDY and an International Summit Creative Award.
