JOHN BERNDT, CEO

John Berndt is the founder and principle strategist of The Berndt Group, a 15 year-old company that is one of the few remaining first wave Web development firms in the Baltimore/Washington area. John is a senior strategic analyst with experience in large-scale content management implementations, information architecture, usability, and customer analytics. His focus is on providing the most grounded, case-appropriate solutions possible to the problems of Web content delivery.

Since founding the company in 1991, John has personally designed and/or managed many large, successful web site projects for major clients including, Bell South, The World Bank, BlueCross BlueShield and The Sports Authority. Today he functions as a strategic consultant, lending a broad knowledge of the industry, business analysis and technology to projects. His recent consulting projects include work for government agencies, including The Social Security Administration, the U.S. Immigration Service, and The U.S. Forest Service, as well as benchmarking of Internet Governance practices at Fidelity Investments.

John also holds key positions in several local organizations, including acting as president of a non-profit cultural organization (The High Zero Foundation); board member of an Asian startup company, Hello Lesson; an Executive Director of the Maryland Production Alliance; member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance; and a member of the Baltimore Museum of Art’s Technology Advisory Board. He has served as a moderator at the Gilbane Conference and writes on the subject of CMS best practices.

John attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and studied design and photography in Italy at Studio Arts Centers International (SACI). He has taught interactive design at The Maryland Institute College of Art and The Johns Hopkins School of Continuing Studies.
